Whither Yahoo?

An axiom of business says that companies do best when they "stick with the knitting". So who wants to read these tea leaves?

Yahoo throws in the search towel

I can't even remember the last time I used Yahoo for a search, or even a map. Google has done a way better job at all of that, plus they have done e-mail the way e-mail should be done with their Gmail service.

The one good thing that Yahoo has (besides their recent acquisition of flickr) is my.yahoo.com. As the whole "personalized news/home page" services go, Yahoo has the best offering (IMHO). Other than that, though, Google seems to be coming in and doing things the right way.

It's unfortunate that Yahoo has given up the ghost, so to speak,in the web search arena. While I do find myself utilizing Google quite a bit for searches, more so than Yahoo, having the Yahoo! Search bar on my My Yahoo! page is quite convenient.

I'm pleased to see that Yahoo is not abandoning the search arena, though.... as long as there is competition, even mild competition, it may help to keep Google honest.
